El Choco National Park is one of Puerto Plata’s best kept secrets. Located between the towns of Sosúa and Cabarete, this natural space with an area of 78 square kilometers hides in its interior all kinds of landscapes that invite you to hike, explore caves, navigate in lagoons and take bike tours.
Its trails cross tropical forests with cocoa and coffee plantations where hundreds of species of birds, lizards and other animals live.
The park has plenty of trails that will take you through thick tropical forests full of cocoa and coffee trees, medicinal plants, and into caves, in dry parts and parts full of water, dating back millions of years.
Along the way, you will see more than 30 species of birds, lizards, and bats. At the park entrance you will find bilingual guides, if you go on your own, or you can also hire an organized tour on foot or by bike from the city.
The park guides accompany you throughout the tour, the visit takes time because there are several caves to visit, somewhere it is possible to swim and enjoy this beautiful place.
