Taino Farm, an encounter with nature!

Taino Farm is a wonderful place located on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, in the municipality of Jamao del Norte with the largest variety of unique plants and a teaching center that will enrich your intellect in a unique way.

Taino Farm is a permaculture-inspired agritourism demonstration and educational center that inspires sustainable and nutritious food, tucked away on a tropical river outside the surf town of Cabarete, on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, in the municipality of Jamao del Norte in the Espaillat Province.

The Taino Organic Farm is state-of-the-art for the region, with modern aquaponics and water management systems, vermiculture, as well as beekeeping and aquaculture. The systems are so advanced for the Dominican Republic that some of the best universities in the country take field trips to visit the farm and learn more about their systems.

Taino Farm is an extension of the ecological surf hotel in Cabarete called extreme hotel Cabarete, Casa Mami Extreme and Rogue fitness Cabarete. As a group, we are focused on healthy living, fitness, and adventure and sports tourism. Extreme Hotel acts as the hub for most of these businesses and is located on Kite Beach, about 30 minutes from where the Taino Farm is located.

On site, you can find Kite Lounge, Yoga Cabarete, Kaiceitos Circus, Cabarete Fitness Camps, a Spanish school, a permaculture garden, an aquaponics demo site.

The mission is to be a sustainable community that serves to educate and inspire responsible tourism, agriculture and healthy living. The farm was founded with the intention of supplying organic, healthy food to the hotel, and the hotel helped subsidize the farm’s operations.

Among the pleasant and learning activities that it has are:

1-Sustainable agriculture internship:

The Sustainable Agriculture Internship provides students with the opportunity to explore their own areas of interest in the field of sustainable agriculture,
the goal of the internship is for Taino Farm to be a place that inspires and empowers passionate people to learn skills to live a sustainable life.

2-Organic farm tour:

The goal of the internship is for Taino Farm to be a place that inspires and empowers passionate people to learn skills to live a sustainable life,
The Taino Organic farm grows a variety of fruits, vegetables, and superfoods that you can sample fresh from the trees during your tour.

3-Permaculture:

Permaculture is a system of agricultural, economic, political and social design principles based on the patterns and characteristics of the natural ecosystem.
The main goal is to maintain a closed loop system where all the nutrient needs of the food we produce can be found on our site, or at least on the island.

4- Aquaponics System:

Aquaponics is the integration of aquaculture with hydroponics, it is the technique that allows fish and plants to be raised at high density at the same time, it makes efficient use of water through adequate parameters within the system and vegetables are produced in an organic and profitable way.

This project contains a breeding room to grow our own tilapia, we changed the shape of our fish tanks from primarily media based beds to raft beds in our commercial grow beds, as well as realizing we needed sump tanks.

5- Vermiculture:

Vermiculture or vermiculture is a series of operations related to the breeding and production of detritivorous worms and the treatment, through them, of organic biological waste for recycling in the form of fertilizer called earthworm humus, lombrihumus or vermicompost.
It is literally turning manure into black gold! Worm castings, also known as humus or worm manure, reduce contaminants and increase nutrient uptake for plants, resulting in a much better meal for us at our farm-to-table restaurant in Cabarete! .

This place is without a doubt a phenomenal and unique place for everything it has and the teaching that you will take away for the care of the environment and the growth of our flora in a conscious way and makes this paradise the sanctuary of agriculture in the Dominican Republic. .
